Morris Hedstrom City Centre (MHCC)
Morris Hedstrom (MH) is Fiji’s largest wholesale and retail organization with a chain of Supermarkets and Homemaker (variety) Stores. MH originated in Levuka, the old capital of Fiji and after merging in 1910 with Suva’s Arthur Joske Limited it became widely known as Store Owners, Wine and Spirit Merchants, General Merchants, Auctioneers, Insurance Agents and Planters.
After the merger it has evolved into the country-wide retail giant that exists today operating supermarkets and wholesale outlets across the nation. Their products cover a wide range of goods from foodstuffs, overseas fashion wear and modern appliances to basic agricultural supplies such as; gardening and agricultural tools, groceries, children’s and baby wear, fine materials, fashion garments, men’s wear, shoes, furniture, electrical appliances, crockery, glassware, home ware, latest technologies, pharmaceuticals, toiletries and the list goes on. These come from Fiji’s own expanding source of local suppliers as well as Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
A popular MH outlet is the MH City Center, a multi-storey building which emerged from the ashes of its predecessor in 2009. The original MH shopping complex, the oldest in the store’s chain, saw its demise in a tragic fire in the late 90′s. The land was left idle for years but has always been owned by the same company. Currently it is the largest shopping mall in Fiji, with over twenty different stores, fifteen variety food stalls and around ten trinket stalls.
The food court, located on the second floor of the City Complex, is a great place to relax after a days shopping and is always filled with families out for a treat, a group of friends eating after a good movie or meeting friends for a coffee. Food outlets run the gamut of local and international selection with pizza, Chinese, Indian, Fijian and Middle Eastern available. They all offer good quality food, generous serves and fast and efficient service at competitive prices.MHCC has evolved into the ‘Meeting Place’ of central Suva.
